How to Make Your Own Make-Up Remover

I’ve been looking around for a good make-up remover that removes long-lasting and waterproof make-up easily, yet is not harsh on the skin for some time now.  I know that there are expensive, high-end brands that sell really good make-up removers, but I just can’t get myself to pay so much for something like make-up remover, when I could be spending that on some new shoes! (Ladies you know how it goes…)

So I’ve been doing some research on how to make home-made makeup removers at home that removes makeup effortlessly, AND improves the condition of your skin.  I think I’ve found it!

Its really easy to make, all you need is an empty bottle (something to put the remover in), witch hazel and extra virgin olive oil.

Witch HazelWitch hazel is a type of herb that is native to North America.  It’s been used for skin problems for a long time and it’s great because the herb is a naturally soothing ingredient in many skin care products.  It can be used to treat sunburnt skin, redness, or even skin that is damaged from shaving.  Whatever problems you are having with your skin, there is a good chance that witch hazel can help you.

Olive OilOlive oil not only tastes good and is healthy for you, but it’s also a great makeup remover, especially for stubborn waterproof mascara that is a job on its own to remove.  For ladies with oily skin, don’t worry that the olive oil will block your pores or make your skin more oily.  The molecules that make up olive oil is too big to clog your pores and it won’t make oily skin more oily.  It removes makeup really easily and I even use olive oil to clean my makeup brushes too when they are very dirty.

So now that you know the great benefits of this home-made makeup remover, this is how to make it:

Just take a bottle of your choice and pour witch hazel and olive oil in the bottle at a ratio of 1:1.  E.g. if you going to pour 25 ml of witch hazel, you should pour 25 ml of olive oil.  That’s it!

You will notice that a layer forms between the two ingredients, so because you use it, give it a good shake, put it on a cotton pad and just wipe the makeup away.  Simple!

Voila! An effective make-up remover that is easy to make, affordable AND has great benefits for the skin!
